As early on as the 17th century Quinine was recognised as a mild prevention to malaria. In later years, taken with water it quickly coined the name 'tonic water'. To soften the harshness of this British soldiers occupying India quickly began mixing with gin, sugars and citrus' for it to be more palatable... Cheers!
